Flight Itinerary: Arrive to Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) by June 26, 2025 3pm Depart July 5, 2025 from Ben Gurion Airport (TLV)
Refundable flights are suggested as the security situation in Israel is constantly changing.
Please note, Israel is a special place and there is much to see. This trip will be focused on service not tourism. Volunteers are encouraged to come earlier or stay later and make independent travel plans to experience all Israel has to offer.
Trip Insurance: We require you purchase trip insurance of your choice. There are several companies online, as well as purchases with your airline tickets that offer various forms of coverage. Please choose what you believe is best for you.
ETA Visa: This is a new requirement to enter Israel. United States citizens do not need to apply for a formal visa but the “Electronic Travel Authorization” is required. We recommend only using the official .gov.il site, as others offer expedited services at much higher cost that is not necessary. The cost for the visa should be around $7.
Background Check: For the safety of the communities we serve and in compliance with our policies, all volunteers over the age of 18 are required to submit a recent criminal background check before participating on a trip. We require the most basic report. Please complete these on your own and submit the completed report. The turn around time is usually 1-2 days and the cost should be between $20-$50. Here are some recommended sites:
HELPFUL INFORMATION
WIFI: Generally WiFi is not available in most parts of Israel. At most hotels and Ben Gurion Airport the Wifi is free.
MOBILE: You can purchase a SIM at the airport for use while traveling in Israel. Please note that many phones purchased in the United States are locked to a particular carrier. If you intend to use a Israeli SIM card, make sure that your phone is unlocked. If unlocking your phone is not possible, most carriers offer international plans as well.
MONEY: The official currency of Israel is the Israeli Shekel (NIS). The most convenient and cheapest way to obtain local currency in Israel is via ATMs, which are readily available in Israel (look for ATMs adorned with international flag decals that accept foreign debit cards) or through currency exchange stores. Major credit card companies are also accepted in most places in Israel.
At Ben Gurion you can easily find ATMs and currency exchange places near the baggage claim.
TIPPING - It is customary to tip at least 10% in Israel in restaurants.
LANGUAGE: Official languages are Hebrew and Arabic. English is very widely spoken and understood in all hotels and most restaurants. In big cities and on major roads, most signs are in Hebrew, English, and Arabic.
WEATHER & DRESS CODE: Expect hot, dry weather with daytime temperatures ranging from 85-105°F and cooler evenings around 65–75°F. We recommend lightweight, breathable clothing, modest shorts or pants, and sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses). For work and outings, bring sturdy walking shoes or sandals, and pack a light sweater for cooler evenings or air-conditioned spaces. If visiting religious sites, please wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees.
